Study is the wrong verb

History lets you reread. Math doesn't. You need the move under your hands: which formula, which first step, what to do when the answer looks ridiculous.

Homework is the study guide. Circle what you missed. Those misses are the test, rehearsed.

Don't redo every problem. Redo the ones that still feel sticky, plus one "easy" item so you don't drop cheap points.

Closed book, then check

Pick one problem type. Hide the solution. Solve it on paper. Only then check.

That loop is the whole method. Notes are for the 20 seconds after a miss, not for a highlight marathon.

A one-night plan is damage control. You are buying partial credit and fewer blank pages, not mastery.

If negatives still flip on you under time pressure, fix the sign step first — negative numbers — then return to this week's types.

When the paper hits the desk

Write every formula you had to memorize in the margin before you look at question 1. That dump frees working memory.

Read the directions twice. "Simplify" and "solve" are different jobs. So are "show that" and "find."

Do the ones you can finish cleanly. Come back to the wall. Show steps even on the skip — partial credit is real.

When you stall, write the first legal step you do know (isolate, substitute, factor). Blank space scores zero.

If time remains, sanity-check: units, sign, size. A triangle side of −4, or a probability of 1.4, means you left the rails.

The test after the test

Math stacks. A missed chapter doesn't stay in that chapter.

When the paper comes back, tag each error with the same three labels: concept, slip, misread. Concept misses go back into the closed-book loop this week. Slips mean you slow down and keep digits in their places. Misreads mean you start every problem by underlining the ask.
